A rugged watch shouldn't cost thirty thousand rand
The outdoor watch market has a strange gap in it. At the top end sit the serious tool watches — brilliant pieces of engineering that run anywhere from R8,000 to R30,000. Below that sit cheap fitness bands that crack the first time you knock them against a door frame.
TACTIX exists to fill the middle. We source rugged smartwatches with the specifications that actually matter outdoors — a big battery, a sealed case, a torch, a screen you can read in the sun — and we sell them at a price a normal person can justify. Not a compromise version of an expensive watch. A different answer to the same question.
Who we are
TACTIX is a South African brand, owned and run from Bronkhorstspruit in Gauteng. We trade as Alectro CC. Orders are picked, packed and dispatched here, and when something goes wrong you are dealing with someone in this country, in this time zone, who answers.
To be straightforward about it: the watches are manufactured abroad, as almost all consumer electronics are. What is South African is the brand, the business, the support and the person on the other end of the email.
What we will and won't tell you
The rugged watch category is full of overstated claims — military badges nobody can produce paperwork for, diving photos next to ratings that don't cover diving, battery figures measured under conditions nobody actually uses.
We'd rather tell you the honest version. The battery genuinely lasts weeks, but heavy call use will shorten it. The case is IP68, which covers rain, sweat and a swim, but not a dive. Those distinctions are the difference between a customer who's happy in month six and one who wants their money back in week two.
